Gold Stay
Gold Stay - from Bronze 'Stay'
Take your dog to an open space, practice the 'come' and 'stay' commands learnt in Bronze Stay.
The next step is to use the whistle command. Your own whistle is best but a bought dog whistle can help.
You must be consistent and only use one whistle for one command. You will eventually build a vocabulary of whistles. A dog can hear a specific whistle further away than your voice.
Practice the 'stay' and whistle over about 100 yards if you can. This will probably be sufficient distance for most field work.
You can now practice Gold Stay by using a defined whistle that you want your dog to obey. This whistle will only be used for when you want your dog to come straight to you without hesitation. Never use this whistle for anything else.
My sample is here to listen: Come whistle (audio)
Bronze Stay
Bronze 'Stay'
First steps:
"Wait," "stay" and "come." - Time to complete - 5 mins to half an hour.
These commands allow you to take your dog into the countryside.
Take your dog to a safe area – alone in your backyard or an enclosed field. The lead must be at hand in case of difficulty.
The command:
1. Take your dog to a point (a), say "STAY" and the dog will sit. Walk backwards about 5 yards holding your hand up palm towards the dog. If the dog tries to follow, take it back to point (a).
Silver Stay

Now you will have accomplished the Bronze Stay.
Your eye contact has to be 100% for this extension to Bronze Stay, as the dog is looking at your hand command.
All you need is to raise your palm to your dog and gesture downwards while shouting 'stay'.
Give the 'stay' command and walk away with your back to your dog.
Turn at 10 yards (10m) and call 'COME' (Do not whistle) This is a new command which is different from the whistled 'come'. If you confuse the dog he will take some time to correct. (I know as I made the same mistake.)
Your dog will come until you say 'STAY.' Allow the dog to sit on its haunches. Then, call 'COME.' Repeat as often as you wish.
Once you have accomplished this you can use the 'stay and 'come' commands as a game with your dog.
Now try Gold Stay.
Gold Wait
Gold Wait
With this section you will use a short high-low whistle when you want the dog to wait which will allow you to be more relaxed as you walk.
Silver Wait
Silver Wait
This trick will enable you to walk in the country with your dog off the lead. Remember the country-side code and keep close control of your dog at all times. If your dog is not behaving off the lead, you are legally obliged to keep it on the lead.
To begin with you will need to make sure the dog is going to return to you without hesitation. You must have completed the 'stay' and 'come' Gold Section.
With the 'wait' command your dog will stop and look back at you. You must be able to call loud enough for him to hear you.
Psychology: Your body language will also be a key factor to your dog and your gestures will have to be exaggerated.
Remember all new commands are fun for your dog and he will want to please you. If you make yourself look exciting to the dog he will always try to do better and that will make you do better as well. This time you need to make sure the dog is walking at about five feet in front (1.5m) and you will just say 'wait' from time to time if the dog is walking too fast. This is all you need to do.
